The work began with a desire to listen.
Over the course of my time in the Global Experience Project several international Women’s marches that took place during 2016-17.I chose to explore Isaac Julien’s creative process which consists of using sound as the starting point for building his poetic video narratives. Documenting several marches using super 8 mm film, audio and seismographic recordings became an integral part of my exploration. The idea of sound as a form of vibration allowed me to make several connections between the body and the spoken word. The multiplicity of one individual’s movements multiplied by another individual’s movement creates a larger movement. This speaks to how collectively we can impact. My work is simply a series of documentations turned into studio based exercises. Experiences which in their construction, critique the commodification of feminism and the commercial structures which now support (and thus control) acts of protest.
